The authors consider the non-abelian tensor square \(G\otimes G\) of a group \(G\), where \(G\) is residually finite, with a special condition on \([x,y^{\phi}]^q\), \( q = q(x,y) \) dividing a fixed power \(p^m\) of the prime \(p\). Theorem A. If \(G\) satisfies some non-trivial identity \(f = 1\) and \([x,y^{\phi}]^q = 1\), then \((\nu (G))'\) is locally finite. Theorem B. If \([x,y^{\phi}]^q\) is left \(n\)-Engel in \(\nu (G)\), then \(G\otimes G\) is locally virtually nilpotent. Here, \(\nu (G)\) is the extension of \(G\otimes G\) by \(G\) defined by the conjugation rules.
