The authors show that the smooth torsion of bundles of manifolds constructed by \textit{W. G. Dwyer, M. Weiss} and \textit{B. Williams} [Acta Math. 190, No.~1, 1--104 (2003; Zbl 1077.19002)] satisfies the axioms for higher torsion developed by \textit{K. Igusa} [J. Topol. 1, No.~1, 159--186 (2008; Zbl 1196.57024)]. As a consequence they obtain that the smooth Dwyer-Weiss-Williams torsion is proportional to the higher torsion of [\textit{K. Igusa}, Higher Franz-Reidemeister torsion. AMS/IP Studies in Advanced Mathematics. 31. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS). Somerville, MA: International Press, (2002: Zbl 1016.19001)] and \textit{J. R. Klein} [``Higher Reidemeister torsion and parametrized Morse theory''. The proceedings of the Winter School ``Geometry and Physics'' , Srní,C zechoslovakia, January 5--12, 1991. Palermo: Circolo Matematico di Palermo, Suppl. Rend. Circ. Mat. Palermo, II. Ser. 30, 15--20 (1993; Zbl 0807.57026)].
