A refined functional analysis for the Radon operator, referring to axisymmetric functions which have strong regularity properties in fractional order Hilbert spaces, is presented. The authors provide a variational approach to solve the problem of tomographic reconstruction in fractional order Hilbert spaces. The existence of solutions and first order necessary conditions for optimality are given.
