The authors consider a second-order Hamiltonian system \[ u''-L(t)u+W_u(t,u)=0, \] where the matrix \(L(t)\) is not assumed to be constant or periodic in \(t\). Their main assumption is as follows: There exists a constant \(\alpha<2\) such that \[ l(t)|t|^{\alpha-2}\to\infty, \quad |t|\to\infty, \] where \(l(t)\) is the smallest eigenvalue of \(L(t)\). The authors give sufficient conditions under which there exists a sequence of homoclinic solutions to the zero solution whose amplitudes tend to 0.
