The author introduces the notion of the mass endomorphism on a closed Riemannian spin manifold of dimension \(n\geq 2\), and proves for \(n= 3\) the this endomorphism on a generic metric is non-zero. This result implies a strict inequality, which can be employed to avoid bubbling-off phenomena in conformal spin geometry. Contents include: An introduction (which includes a statement of his results); Preliminaries; Proof of results; and References (twenty items).
