A windowing technique for waveform relaxation (WR) solutions of initial value problems is studied. A good error norm bound of the iterative waveforms is needed in order to yield a valuable window length in practical computations as in some typical transient systems. By the bound, a suggested window length can be theoretically estimated. Numerical experiments are given to illustrate the theoretical analysis of windowing of WR for nonlinear and linear dynamic equations.
