This is a nice discussion on third-order convergent Newton-like methods for solving nonlinear scalar equations \(f(x)=0\). Using the formulation \(f'(y)\approx f(x)[f(x)-f(y)]/[f(x)+f(y)]\) the author unifies a few third-order Newton-like methods and shows that a new variation of third-order methods can be generated easily. Numerical examples illustrates efficiency of some proposed methods.
