The Chapman mechanism is the simplest photochemical mechanism to understand the formation of ozone under stratospheric conditions. In this paper, the authors apply the Poincaré compactification to the dynamical system generated by the above mechanism. The authors analyze the critical points both in the finite part and at infinity, and find the heteroclinic connections among them, getting in this way a complete qualitative analysis of the global flow.
