Many authors have established rigorously multifractal formalism for a number of deterministic and random fractal measures under the open set condition of \textit{J. E. Hutchinson} [Indiana Univ. Math. J. 30, 713-747 (1981; Zbl 0598.28011)] and its variants. In this paper, the authors define a new separation property, Weak Separation Property (WSP), on the family of contractive similitudes that allows certain overlappings. The WSP is weaker than the open set condition. It is satisfied by the well-known class of infinite Bernoulli convolutions associated with the P.V. numbers and by the solutions of the two-scale dilation equations. The authors prove the multifractal formalism under the weak separation condition. Their results improve those of \textit{R. Cawley} and \textit{R. D. Mauldin} [Adv. Math. 92, No. 2, 196-236 (1992; Zbl 0763.58018)] and \textit{R. Riedi} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 189, No. 2, 462-490 (1995; Zbl 0819.28008)].
