Let \(R\) be a crystallographic root system in a real Euclidean space \(V\). The hyperplanes orthogonal to the roots of \(R\) define a simplicial fan \(\Phi_R\), and hence the associated toric variety \(X_R\). The author proves that the natural representation of the Weyl group \(W\) of \(R\) on the rational cohomology \(H^* (X_R,\mathbb{Q})\) is isomorphic to the linearization of a certain permutation representation \(\pi_R\) of \(W\). A number of interesting properties of \(\pi_R\) is proved.
