The author makes use of the methods described in the paper of \textit{D. Adams} and \textit{L. Simon} [Indiana Univ. Math. J. 37, No. 2, 225--254 (1988; Zbl 0669.49023)] to construct a metric with $G_2$-holonomy and slow rate of convergence to the cone metric on a ball inside the cone over the flag manifold. To solve this a $G_2$ cone metric is considered induced by $\phi$ on the cone $CM$ over the flag manifold $M$ after which the Adams and Simon method is used to solve the equation \[ \pi_{14}^{\phi}(\ast_{\phi}d \ast_{\phi + d\xi} (\phi +d\xi)+\frac{3}{2}dd_{\phi}^{\ast}\xi) = 0, \] with boundary conditions $d_{\phi}^{\ast}\xi |_{r=1}=0$ and $r_{0}^{-3} \|\xi\|_{C^{k,\alpha}_{r^{-2}dr^2+h}(r_0)} \rightarrow 0$ as $r_0 \rightarrow 0$.
