Let \(S:=\{\mathbf x=(x_1,\dots,x_d)\mid x_i\geq0,| \mathbf x| :=\sum_{i=1}^dx_i\leq1\}\) be the \(d\)-dimensional simplex. For a multi-index \(\mathbf k:=(k_1,\dots,k_d)\) with nonnegative integer entries, denote \(| \mathbf k| :=\sum_{i=1}^dk_i\), and \(\mathbf k!:=k_1!\cdots k_d!\), and let \[ P_{n,\mathbf k}(\mathbf x):=\frac{n!}{\mathbf k!(n-\mathbf k)!}\mathbf x^{\mathbf k}(1-| \mathbf x| )^{n-\mathbf k},\quad \mathbf x\in S,\quad n\geq0, \] where \(\mathbf x^{\mathbf k}:=x_1^{k_1}\cdots x_d^{k_d}\). With \(f\in C(S)\) we associate the \(d\)-dimensional Bernstein polynomials \[ B_{n,d}(f,\mathbf x):=\sum_{| \mathbf k| \leq n}P_{n,\mathbf k}(\mathbf x)f\left(\frac{\mathbf k}n\right),\quad \mathbf x\in S,\quad n\geq0. \] The author extends results of Ditzian on the growth of the derivatives of the 1-dimensional Bernstein polynomials of a Hölder function, to the growth of directional derivatives of the \(d\)-dimensional Bernstein polynomials, in the direction of the edges, of a function \(f\in C(S)\) satisfying a suitably defined Hölder condition to the direction of the same edges.
