The authors construct a finite volume element scheme based on Adini's element for the Poisson equation. Optimal order error estimates in \(H^{1}\) and \( L^{2}\) norms are derived. They also prove the global superconvergence in \( H^{1}\) norm and the locally pointwise superconvergence of numerical gradients at vertices and centers of the rectangular elements. A numerical experiment confirms the theoretical results.
