The main aim of this paper is to classify all non-collapsing Curtis-Tits and Phan amalgamns with \(3\)-spherical diagram over arbitrary fields, in particular encompassing also the case of small finite fields which was previously open. The main result (in full generality) is the following. Theorem: Let \(q\) be any prime power and let \(\Gamma\) be a connected \(3\)-spherical diagram with homotopy rank \(n\); then, \begin{itemize} \item[1.] there is a bijection between the elements of \(\prod_{s=1}^r\Aut({\mathbb{F}_{q^2}})\) and the type-preserving isomorphism classes of Phan amalgams with diagram \(\Gamma\) over \(\mathbb{F}_q\); \item[2.] there exists a set of positive integers \(\{e_1,\dots,e_r\}\) so that there is a bijection between the elements of \(\prod_{s=1}^r\Aut({\mathbb F}_{q^{e_s}})\times {\mathbb{Z}}/2\mathbb{Z}\) and the type preserving isomorphism classes of Curtis-Tits amalgams with diagram \(\Gamma\) over \(\mathbb{F}_q\). \end{itemize}
