Standing pulse solutions of three-component systems with competition and diffusion are considered, where two species diffuse slowly relative to the third species. For a range of parameter values two stable equilibrium points \(P_+\) and \(P_-\) exist. Under the assumption that travelling front and back solutions between these stable equilibria with the same velocity exist, it is shown that standing pulse solutions bifurcate from these travelling front and back solutions. By solving a ``singular limit eigenvalue problem'' it is possible to determine the direction of bifurcation and stability properties of the bifurcated solutions.
