The paper deals with an intrahost mathematical model of \textit{Plasmodium falciparum}, a species of parasites causing malaria in humans. The model allows for antigenic variation within a single species and host's immune response is compartmentalised into reactions to major and minor epitopes. The main goal is to study effects of symmetry on the dynamics of the model abolishing the requirement of smallness of the time delay. The main results provide sufficient conditions under which the system undergoes a simple root Hopf bifurcation and an equivariant Hopf bifurcation in a ring of antigenic variants characterized by time delay. | |||
