Rota-Baxter operators from [\textit{J.-L. Loday}, Springer LNM 1763, 7--66 (2001; Zbl 0999.17002)] are extended to \textit{Rota-Baxter systems} consisting of two linear endomorphisms of an associative algebra subject to a pair of Rota-Baxter like conditions, both containing both maps. In addition to usual Rota-Baxter operators, examples are provided also by their twisted variants (introduced here) and so in particular by Jackson integrals. Similarly to the construction in [\textit{M. Aguiar}, Lett. Math. Phys. 54, 263--277 (2000; Zbl 1032.17038)] yielding a dendriform algebra from a Rota-Baxter operator, also Rota-Baxter systems are shown to induce dendriform algebras. Conversely, linear endomorphisms of non-degenerate algebras induce dendriform algebra structures if and only if they constitute a Rota-Baxter system. Extending a result in [\textit{F. Panaite} and \textit{F. Van Oystaeyen}, J. Algebra Appl. 16, 1750079 (2017)], the derived associative multiplication (see Loday's above book) on a dendriform algebra induced by a Rota-Baxter system is proven to correspond to the original multiplication via a twist of the same kind discussed by Panaite and Van Oystaeyen. Yang-Baxter operators are generalized to \textit{associative Yang-Baxter pairs}. Similarly to the construction in [\textit{M. Aguiar}, Marcel Dekker Lect. Notes Pure Appl. Math. 237, 1--33 (2004; Zbl 1059.16027)] yielding a Rota-Baxter operator from a Yang-Baxter operator, associative Yang-Baxter pairs are shown to induce Rota-Baxter systems. Infinitesimal bialgebras in [\textit{M. Aguiar}, AMS Contemp. Math. 267, 1--29 (2000; Zbl 0982.16028)] are generalized to \textit{covariant bialgebras}. Similarly to Aguiar's construction yielding infinitesimal bialgebras from Yang-Baxter operators, associative Yang-Baxter pairs are shown to induce covariant bialgebras.
