Given a compact topological space \(K\) and an open subset \(U\) of \(C(K)\), a holomorphic \(f\) on \(U\) is said to be locally orthogonally additive if, for each \(a\) in \(U\), there is a neighbourhood \(V\) of \(a\) such that, if \(a+u\), \(a+v\) and \(a+u+v\) are in \(V\) with \(u\perp v\) (\(u\cdot v=0\)), then \(f_a(u+v)=f_a(u)+f_a(v)\). (Here, \(f_a(x)=f(a+x)-f(a)\).) The authors prove that when \(U\) is connected and \(f\) in \({\mathcal H}(U)\) satisfies the above condition on a neighbourhood of some point of \(U\), then \(f\) is locally orthogonally additive on \(U\). It is also shown that a holomorphic function \(f\) in \({\mathcal H}(U)\) is locally orthogonally additive if and only if, for each \(a\) in \(U\), there is a probability measure \(\mu_a\) on \(K\) such that \(f(u)=\int_Kh_a(u)\,d\mu_a\) for \(u\) near \(a\), where \(h_a(u)=c+\sum_{k=1}^ \infty g_k(u-a)^k\) (near \(a\)) with \(c\in {\mathbb C}\) and \(g_k\) in \(L^1(\mu)\). The paper concludes with an example of a locally orthogonally additive holomorphic function on \(\ell_\infty\) which is not of bounded type.
