The author studies the existence of heteroclinic solutions for the nonautonomous extended Fisher-Kolmogorov equation \[ q^{(4)}(t)-q''(t)+V_{q}(t,q)=0, \tag{1} \] where \(V(t,q)\) is a time-dependent potential function and \(V_{q}\) denotes the partial derivative with respect to the second variable \(q\). More precisely, under some suitable conditions and using a variational approach, the author shows that for every \(\xi\in\mathcal{V}\), there is a pair of heteroclinic solutions of (1), one emanating from \(\xi\) and the other terminating at \(\xi\), where \(\mathcal{V}\) is a set containing at least two points. He also considers the case when \(V(t,u)\) is periodic in \(t\). | |||
