Finding the existence/non-existence of epimorphisms between knot groups is an interesting challenge. \textit{D. Lee} and \textit{M. Sakuma} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. (3) 104, No. 2, 359--386 (2012; Zbl 1250.57015)] studied upper-meridian-pair-preserving epimorphisms between 2-bridge link groups. In the paper under review, the same authors give an explicit definition of the Heckoid groups and show the existence of epimorphisms from 2-bridge link groups onto Heckoid groups. This is a generalization of Riley's original construction.
