In this interesting paper, the author defines a Laplace operator on Finsler manifolds in terms of second-order directional derivatives. The constructed operator is a symmetric elliptic second-order differential operator. In some special coordinate representations the spectrum of the operator is computed effectively. The Laplacian introduced in the paper is different from Shen's operator (which is not linear) and from the Bao-Lackkey and Centore Laplacian operators (which are elliptic and symmetric but still different from the one introduced in the paper). The author introduces an angle form which is necessary for the constructions. The spectrum is calculated (or at least approximated, depending the situation) and there are given explicit representations for Katok-Ziller metrics on the 2-torus and on the 2-sphere. | |||
