The aim of this paper is to study the method of generating functions and forms in order to obtain numerical integrators which preserve the canonical volume forms. More precisely, some classes of first-order volume-preserving methods are obtained assuming that the transformations are consistent with the identity map. An important tool is a generalization of the Poincaré generating functions.
