The main goal of this paper is the presentation of an axiomatic definition of the Human Development Index (HDI) formulated in 1990 year by the Union Nations Development Program (UNDP). The presented definition is compatible with the new HDI calculation methodology unveiled by the UNDP in 2010. Some properties of the introduced generalized HDI are discussed. All necessary mathematical proofs are presented. Some examples of the generalized non-classical HDI are given.
