A computational approach to modeling size-dependent self and latent hardening in polycrystals is presented. The paper begins with a brief discussion and formulation of basic kinematic issues. The investigation of glide system interaction, latent hardening and excess dislocation development is shown. Next the authors are turning to the dual-mixed finite element formulation. Further attention is turned to the formulation of a constitutive model allowing for latent hardening. The model is based in a thermodynamic setting. The free energy density depends on dislocation densities. A two-dimensional numerical example is further presented for local and non-local hardening behavior of a two-dimensional grain structure.
