For the classical Strichartz inequality \(\|e^{i t\sqrt{-\Delta}}f\|_{L^q_{t,x}(\mathbb{R}^{d+1})}\leq C\|f\|_{\dot H^{1/2}(\mathbb{R}^d)}\) with \(q=2 (d+1)/(d-1)\) and \(d\geq 2\), the authors prove a refinement. More precisely, let \(S=\{w_m\}_m\subset S^{d-1}\) be maximally \(2^{-j}\) separated and define \(\tau_m^{j,k}=\{\xi\in\mathbb{R}^d: 2^k\leq |\xi|\leq 2^{k+1}, |\xi/|\xi|-w_m|\leq |\xi/|\xi|-w_{m'}|, m'\neq m\}\), then there exist some \(p<2\) and \(\theta>0\), such that \[ \|e^{i t\sqrt{-\Delta}}f\|_{L^q_{t,x}(\mathbb{R}^{d+1})}\leq C\sup_{j,k,m} 2^{k\theta/2}|\tau_m^{j,k}|^{\theta (p-2)/2p} \|\chi_{\tau_m^{j,k}}\hat f\|_{p}^\theta \|f\|_{\dot H^{1/2}(\mathbb{R}^d)}^{1-\theta}. \] As an application, the authors obtain the linear profile decomposition for the wave equation with initial data in \(\dot H^{1/2}\times \dot H^{-1/2}\) and prove the existence of maximizers for the Strichartz inequality.

    For the classical Strichartz inequality \(\|e^{i t\sqrt{-\Delta}}f\|_{L^q_{t,x}(\mathbb{R}^{d+1})}\leq C\|f\|_{\dot H^{1/2}(\mathbb{R}^d)}\) with \(q=2 (d+1)/(d-1)\) and \(d\geq 2\), the authors prove a refinement. More precisely, let \(S=\{w_m\}_m\subset S^{d-1}\) be maximally \(2^{-j}\) separated and define \(\tau_m^{j,k}=\{\xi\in\mathbb{R}^d: 2^k\leq |\xi|\leq 2^{k+1}, |\xi/|\xi|-w_m|\leq |\xi/|\xi|-w_{m'}|, m'\neq m\}\), then there exist some \(p<2\) and \(\theta>0\), such that \[ \|e^{i t\sqrt{-\Delta}}f\|_{L^q_{t,x}(\mathbb{R}^{d+1})}\leq C\sup_{j,k,m} 2^{k\theta/2}|\tau_m^{j,k}|^{\theta (p-2)/2p} \|\chi_{\tau_m^{j,k}}\hat f\|_{p}^\theta \|f\|_{\dot H^{1/2}(\mathbb{R}^d)}^{1-\theta}. \] As an application, the authors obtain the linear profile decomposition for the wave equation with initial data in \(\dot H^{1/2}\times \dot H^{-1/2}\) and prove the existence of maximizers for the Strichartz inequality.
