Strengthening the notion of a Schwartz group introduced by \textit{L. Außenhofer, M. J. Chasco, X. Domínguez} and \textit{V. Tarieladze} [Stud. Math. 181, No. 3, 199--210 (2007; Zbl 1126.22001)], the author defines special Schwartz groups and studies their structure and basic properties. Many nice topological groups are special Schwartz groups. There is a Schwartz group which is not a special Schwartz group. It is shown that the class of special Schwartz groups is a Hausdorff variety that coincides with the Hausdorff variety generated by all abelian locally \(k_{\omega}\) groups. The paper contains five interesting open problems.
