This paper concerns covering dimension invariants and their distinguishability. The covering dimension invariants dealt with in this paper include \(\delta\)-dimension of \textit{Yu. M. Smirnov} [Mat. Sb., N. Ser. 38(80), 283--302 (1956; Zbl 0070.18002)], uniform dimension \(\delta d_{\mu}\) of \textit{J. R. Isbell} [Uniform spaces. Providence, R.I.: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (1964; Zbl 0124.15601)], dimension by a normal base of \textit{S. D. Iliadis} [Universal spaces and mappings. Amsterdam: Elsevier (2005; Zbl 1072.54001)], uniform dimension \(\mu\text{-}\dim\) of \textit{M. G. Charalambous} [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 11, 137--143 (1975; Zbl 0306.54048)], relative dimension of \textit{A. C. Chigogidze} [Soobshch. Akad. Nauk Gruz. SSR 85, 45--48 (1977; Zbl 0347.54024)]. The authors classify these dimensions and give relations between them. Using the fact that each of the above covering dimension invariants equals the covering dimension of some compactification, the authors define the following three sets: {\parindent=8mm\begin{itemize}\item[(i)] \(\mathrm{d}\text{-}\mathrm{SP}_{U} (X)\), the set of values \(\dim bX\) for all compactifications \(bX\) of \(X\); \item[(ii)] \(\mathrm{d}\text{-}\mathrm{SP}_{W} (X)\), the set of values \(\dim wX\) for all Wallman-type compactifications \(wX\) of \(X\); \item[(iii)] \(\mathrm{d}\text{-}\mathrm{SP}_{\beta} (X)\), the set of values \(\dim b_{\beta}X\) for all \(\beta\)-like compactifications \(b_{\beta} X\) of \(X\). \end{itemize}} The objective of the paper is to distinguish those sets. The main results of the paper are: the minimal values of the sets \(\mathrm{d}\text{-}\mathrm{SP}_{U} (X)\), \(\mathrm{d}\text{-}\mathrm{SP}_{W} (X)\), and \(\mathrm{d}\text{-}\mathrm{SP}_{\beta} (X)\) are all equal to the value \(\mathrm{mindim} X\), which was defined as the minimal value of \(\delta d_{\mu} X\) over uniformities \(\mu\) on \(X\) by Isbell [loc. cit.]; if \(X\) is a locally compact space, then \(\mathrm{d}\text{-}\mathrm{SP}_{U} (X) = [\mathrm{mindim} X, \infty]\) or \(\mathrm{d}\text{-}\mathrm{SP}_{U} (X) = \mathrm{d}\text{-}\mathrm{SP}_{\beta} (X) = \{\dim X\}\); if \(X\) is not a pseudo compact space, then \([\dim X, \infty] \subseteq \mathrm{d}\text{-}\mathrm{SP}_{U} (X)\); if \(X\) is a Lindelöf noncompact space, then \(\mathrm{d}\text{-}\mathrm{SP}_{U} (X) = [\dim X, \infty]\); if \(X\) is a separable metrizable noncompact space, then \(\mathrm{d}\text{-}\mathrm{SP}_{W} (X) = [\dim X, \infty]\). Moreover, the compactification theorem of Skljarenko is proved for Wallman-type compactifications, and it is proved that there exists a compact space which is universal for the class of all spaces \(X\) with \(w(X) \leq \tau\) and \(\mathrm{minim} X \leq n\), where \(\tau\) is an infinite cardinal and \(n\in \omega \cup\{\-1, \infty\}\).
