The numerical approximation by Fourier spectral methods of the Korteweg-de Vries-Kawahara equation with periodic solution is analyzed. The equation is firstly discretized in space using the standard Fourier-Galerkin spectral method. It is proved that the solution of the semi-discrete problems converges in \(L^2\), on bounded temporal intervals, to the solution of the corresponding continuous problem. Then, the system of ordinary differential equations that results from the spectral semidiscretization is discretized in time using two different methods: the leap-frog method and the Crank-Nicolson method. For the resulting fully discrete, conditionally stable scheme, an \(L^2\)-error bound of spectral accuracy in space and of second order accuracy in time is established.
