The article's motivation is the known fact that left-invariant solvsoliton Riemannian metrics on 3-dimensional simply connected solvable Lie groups are characterized by the minimality of its \textit{corresponding submanifolds}. This result was recently obtained by the author and H. Tamaru. This paper intends to determine if an analogous result can be established for left-invariant Riemannian metrics on 4-dimensional solvable Lie groups. Denote as \(\mathfrak s\) a solvable Lie algebra of dimension 4. The author proves that when \(\mathfrak s\) is nilpotent the minimality of the corresponding submanifold characterizes solvsoliton metrics (known as nilsoliton metrics). This result is achieved by analyzing case by case the three non-isomorphic 4-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebras. Nevertheless, when the Lie algebra is non-nilpotent, this result fails. Indeed, the paper gives a solvable Lie algebra \(\mathfrak s_4\) and two inner products \(\left\langle \,,\, \right\rangle_1\) and \(\left\langle \,,\, \right\rangle_2\) on it such that: (i) \(\left\langle \,,\, \right\rangle_1\) is a solvsoliton metric for which the corresponding submanifold is not minimal; (ii) the corresponding submanifold to \(\left\langle \,,\, \right\rangle_2\) is minimal but the metric is not a solvsoliton metric. The author expresses that, despite these examples in \(\mathfrak s_4\), the characterization given by minimality of the corresponding solvmanifolds may be true in dimension 4, under certain conditions. | |||
