The authors present a formal justification of the one-dimensional simplified model which describes the propagation of the electromagnetic waves in thin conductor cables. The cables may have a changing cross-section, can be non-homogeneous and lossy. The resulting system, a generalized telegrapher's model, is derived from the 3D Maxwell equations. Having a solution to the simplified 1D model, one can approximately reconstruct the 3D electromagnetic field. The well-posedness of the model is shown and the limitation of the model to detect defects of the cables is discussed. | |||
