The Schwab-Borchard mean, \(SB\), can be obtained as the value of a degenerate case of the symmetric elliptic integral of the first kind. Using the degenerate case of the completely symmetric elliptic integral of the second kind the author of this paper defines analogously a new bivariate mean, \(N\). \(N\) is related to \(SB\) by the formula: \(N(a,b) = {1\over2}\Bigl(a+{b^2\over S(a,b)}\Bigr)\). Various properties of \(N\) are obtained and it is used to introduce four other means by analogy with the known fact that various means are generated by the Schwab-Borchard mean; for instance \(L= SB(A,G)\), where \(L\) is the logarithmic mean. The comparability of these means and of these means and other bivariate means is proved. As well inequalities of the Ky Fan type are given. | |||
