This paper introduces a notion of weak (quasi)-affine bi-frames in (1.8) by replacing the unconditional convergence in the definition of an affine bi-frame with a weaker notion of convergence in (1.8) for the scale index. Under the Assumptions 1--3, for affine bi-frames derived from refinable functions, the authors show that the condition in (1.17) of Theorem 1.1 implies a weak (quasi-)affine bi-frame for a reducing subspace of \(L^2(\mathbb{R}^d)\). Further results on weak (quasi-)affine bi-frames derived from refinable functions are given in Theorem 1.2. The reviewer would like to point out that there is an even weaker notion of bi-frames, called a pair of frequency-based nonhomogeneous dual wavelet frames in the distribution space, in the following papers: [\textit{B. Han}, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 29, No. 3, 330--353 (2010; Zbl 1197.42021); Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 32, No. 2, 169--196 (2012; Zbl 1241.42028)]. Pairs of frequency-based nonhomogeneous dual wavelet frames in the distribution space have been fully characterized and their natural connections to filter banks are established in the above two papers.
