The article is a review of existence results for multidimensional thermoviscoelastic systems. The authors repeat fundamental concepts of dynamics of contunuum, thermal dynamics, thermal mechanics, and define functional spaces: this part serves as reference material. Known results for compressible and incompressible continua are presented, followed by the authors' results on the subject. The methods used are successive approximations combined with fixed point approaches and a priori estimates.
