In this paper, the authors study homotopy colimits of 2-functors from an indexing 2-category into the 2-category \(\underline{\mathbf{2Cat}}\) of 2-categories, 2-functors and 2-natural transformations. In this way, they extend, to this 2-categorical context, well-known results in the categorical case like Thomason's homotopy colimit theorem or Quillen's theorems \(A\) and \(B\). This requires to introduce preliminary constructions like the Grothendieck construction on 2-functors valued in \(\underline{\mathbf{2Cat}}\) and the homotopy-fibre 2-functors. Since there are interesting sources in homotopy theory of 2-categories for the study of diagram of 2-categories, these new results arise interesting, as well as the classical ones, in the fields of Algebraic Topology and Algebraic \(K\)-theory.
