\textit{G.-F. Wang} and \textit{D. Ye} [Adv. Math. 230, No. 1, 294--320 (2012; Zbl 1241.35007)] conjectured that the Hardy-Moser-Trudinger inequality holds for bounded and convex domains with smooth boundary in \(\mathbb{R}^2\). The article under review gives an affirmative answer to this conjecture. Applying the method developed by \textit{Nguyen Lam} and \textit{G.-Z. Lu} [Adv. Math. 231, No. 6, 3259--3287 (2012; Zbl 1278.42033); J. Differ. Equations 255, No. 3, 298--325 (2013; Zbl 1294.46034)], the authors also give a new approach to establish the strengthened Trudinger-Moser inequality and Hardy-Moser-Trudinger inequality on the hyperbolic space \(\mathbb{B}=\{z=x+iy:\;|z|=\sqrt{x^2+y^2}<1\}\). This approach is much simpler and also avoids using the rearrangement argument.
