The Stone-von Neumann theorem was proved for Heisenberg groups associated to real vector spaces by \textit{M. H. Stone} [Proceedings USA Academy 16, 172--175 (1930; JFM 56.0357.01)] and by \textit{J. von Neumann} [Math. Ann. 104, 570--578 (1931; Zbl 0001.24703); Math. Ann. 104, 570--578 (1931; JFM 57.1446.01)], during the 1930's. \textit{G. W. Mackey} [Duke Math. J. 16, 313--326 (1949; Zbl 0036.07703)] extended this result to Heisenberg groups associated to all locally compact abelian groups and the result is now known as the Stone-von Neumann-Mackey theorem. In this paper the author reproves this classical theorem using simple tools like the Peter-Weyl theorem, the Fourier inversion theorem and the Plancherel theorem. The Pontryagin-van Kampen theorem on the structure of locally compact abelian groups is assumed by the author in this paper.
