This paper studies the curvature properties of certain Kähler metrics on the complexified Kähler cone of a Calabi-Yau threefold. These metrics should correspond under mirror symmetry to approximations of the Weil-Petersson metric of the mirror Calabi-Yaus near a large complex structure limit. A conjecture of \textit{H. Ooguri} and \textit{C. Vafa} [Nucl. Phys., B 766, No. 1--3, 21--33 (2007; Zbl 1117.81117)] predicts that these metrics should have nonpositive scalar curvature in some neighborhood of the large complex structure limit point. The main result of this paper is the construction of many counterexamples to this conjecture, where in the limit the scalar curvature blow up to plus infinity.
