The paper deals with the iterative functional equation \[ f(f(x))=2f(x)-x-\frac12(g(f(x))+g(x))\qquad (x\in\mathbb{R}). \] Supposing that \(g\) is of the form \(g(x)=\beta x+g_1(x)\), where \(g_1\) is a bounded function, the solutions \(f\) of the above equation are searched in the form \(f(x)=\alpha x+f_1(x)\), where \(f_1\) is bounded on \(\mathbb{R}\). By using the Banach fixed point theorem in a properly chosen class of functions, the main results of the paper provide existence and uniqueness theorems for the solutions. Convex and concave solutions are also studied. | |||
