A space \(X\) is cleavable over a space \(Y\) along \(A\subset X\) if there exists a continuous mapping \(f\) from \(X\) to \(Y\) such that \(f(A) \cap f(X\setminus A)=\emptyset\). A space \(X\) is cleavable over a space \(Y\) if \(X\) is cleavable over \(Y\) along each \(A\subset X\). In this paper the author discusses cleavability over a Linearly Ordered Topological Space (LOTS), and, in particular, over the Alexandrov double arrow space \(S\). Among other things, the following nontrivial result is proved: any compactum cleavable over \(S\) is homeomorphic to a subspace of \(S\). It is unclear which other LOTS's have this property. As the author shows, it is not true that a compactum cleavable over a connected LOTS is embeddable in it.
