This article reviews qualitative control theory (QCT) of dynamical systems. Topics that classify, analyze, and identify the properties that include the interaction of input-output devices and the object of control belong to this branch. Chapter 2 deals with controllability and observability in dynamical systems. Section 2.1 gives criteria for conditional controllability and relative controllability in linear stationary systems. The dual results are also given. Section 2.2 shows that the condition for controllability in a class of piecewise continuous controls ensures controllability of the system in even substantially narrow classes. Section 2.3 gives the basic result on controllability under sampling. Section 2.4 is concerned with controllability in discriptor systems or general differential systems. Section 2.5 explains the concept of structural controllability. Section 2.6 in Section 2.7 examine controllability conditions for nonstationary systems and nonlinear systems, respectively. Chapter 3 deals with computing the minimum number of input (output) in controllable (observable) linear systems. Chapter 4 classifies linear systems. Section 4.1 explains the connection between canonical forms and the algebraic problem of universality. Section 4.2 gives a Kalman decomposition, and Brunovsky's and Luenberger's controllability canonical forms. Section 4.3 discusses the connection with a pencil [\(\lambda\) I-A,B]. Chapter 5 explains the realization of linear stationary systems. Chapter 6 deals with the problem of QCT for feedback control systems. Section 6.1 reviews stabilizability and its related problems. Section 6.2 examines the fundamental results in modal control problems and notes some new problems. Section 6.3 deals with the decomposition of a control law and the fundamental structure theorem which is due to Rosenbrock. Section 6.4 discusses the decoupling problem and gives a necessary and sufficient condition for decoupling. Section 6.5 gives a necessary and sufficient condition for invertibility. Section 6.6 deals with dead-beat regulation for the discrete-time system \(x(t+1)=Ax(t)+Bu(t)\). Chapter 7 concludes this article.
