A plasma which is one-dimensional, collisionless, without magnetic fields and which contains N kinds of different charged particles is considered. The distribution function in phase space and the electric field of the particles satisfy the Vlasov-Maxwell system of partial differential equations. The author examines conditions for the existence of global solutions of the equations when the initial conditions are not necessarily continuously differentiable. The approach includes some general results for first-order linear partial differential equations. | |||
