For an arbitrary representation \(\rho\) of a Lie algebra \(g\) an equation \(L_ t=-\rho (M)L\) is proposed as a generalization of the celebrated Lax equation \(L_ t=[M,L]\). When \(\rho\) is an adjoint representation the generalized Lax equation coincides with the usual one. Such a generalization is an extension of works by M. A. Semenov-Tyan-Shanskij and A. T. Fomenko. Starting with the generalized Lax equation the author builds for integrable Hamiltonian systems a generalized r-matrix and proposes a modified Yang-Baxter equation as a condition to the consistency of the Lie structure defined by the generalized r-matrix. Such an r-matrix is interpreted as a left-invariant affine torsion-free connection on a Lie group, and the modified Yang-Baxter equation is shown to correspond to a constant curvature tensor. An example for the generalized Lax pair is shown to be a left invariant geodesic motion on a Lie group.
