Let \(R=k[x_1,\cdots,x_n]\) be a polynomial ring over a field \(k\). The authors study multigraded modules over \(R\) which form a generalization of monomial ideals of \(R\). Recall that \(R=\bigoplus R_i\), where \(i=(i_1,\dots,i_d)\) and \(R_i=kx_1^{i_1}x_2^{i_2} \cdots x_d^{i_d}\). Moreover, \(R_iR_j \subseteq R_{i+j}\). An \(R\)-module \(M\) is ``multigraded'' if there exist additive subgroups \(M_j\) of \(M\) such that \(M\cong \bigoplus M_j\) and \(R_iM_j \subseteq M_{i+j}\). Each nonzero element of \(M_j\) has multidegree \(j\) while the multidegree of the zero element is undefined. In the first section of this paper the authors study the presentation matrix of a multigraded module and give a characterization in terms of the minors of the presentation matrix. It is shown that a monomial \(m \times n\) matrix \(A\) is multigraded if and only if the non-zero terms of the determinant of any square submatrix of \(A\) have the same multidegree. An explicit example is studied. -- In section two the authors describe the second syzygies of any multigraded \(R\)-module explicitly and discuss a generalization of the well known Taylor resolution for multigraded modules.
