From the conclusions: A new discretization method is presented, which can be easily applied to regular and irregular domain problems without introducing a coordinate transformation technique. The proposed discretization method first decomposes the physical domain by a series of vertical or horizontal lines. Then along each line, different number of mesh points is distributed. The functional values at these points can be given from an approximate form of the solution. It is shown in this paper that the solution along a vertical line can be approximated by Lagrange interpolating polynomial using all mesh points on the line or by low order polynomial using 3 local points. This process is noted as extrapolation. It is noted that the interpolation and extrapolation coefficients are computed once and used for all the following computations. Through sample problems, it was found that for a nonlinear differential equation, only 3-points local extrapolation could generate accurate numerical results. The new discretization method is applied to simulate incompressible flows in an expansion channel by solving the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations.
