The author considers harmonic quasiconformal homeomorphisms \(f: \Omega_1 \to \Omega_2\) where \(\Omega_1\) and \(\Omega_2\) are Jordan domains in the complex plane with boundaries of class \(C^{1,\mu}, \mu \in(0,1)\). The author proves that (a) \(f\) is Lipschitz and (b) if \(\Omega_2\) is convex, then \(f\) is bi-Lipschitz. Some generalizations of the results of \textit{M. Pavlović} [Ann. Acad. Sci. Fenn., Math. 27, No. 2, 365--372 (2002; Zbl 1017.30014)] are obtained. For the case of \(K\)-quasiconformal self mappings of the unit disk, asymptotically sharp estimates for the Lipschitz constant, when \(K \to 1\,,\) were very recently given by \textit{D. Partyka} and \textit{K.-I. Sakan} [Ann. Acad. Sci. Fenn., Math. 32, No. 2, 579--594 (2007; Zbl 1123.30010)]. Harmonic quasiconformal mappings were apparently first considered by \textit{O. Martio} [Ann. Acad. Sci. Fenn., Ser. A I 425, 10 p. (1968; Zbl 0162.37902)].
