The authors are concerned with mass and momentum conservation when the least-squares spectral collocation method (LSSCM) is used to solve time-dependent Stokes and Navier-Stokes systems. The authors provide at least four important reasons due to which LSSCM is superior to least-squares finite element and spectral element methods in this respect. Some numerical experiments at interesting values of Reynolds number and viscosities are carried out. For internal flows the authors underline the improved results obtained by LSSCM.
