The following Cauchy problem in a Hilbert space is considered \[ u'(t)+Au(t)+Bu(t)=f(t),\quad 0\leq t \leq T, \] \[ u(0)=u_0, \] where \(-A\) is the infinitesimal generator of a \(C_0\)-semigroup of contractions and \(B\) is a nonlinear, Fréchet-differentiable operator with bounded derivative. The authors investigate whether the solution to the considered problem could be approximated by a solution of an elliptic-like regularization of the form \[ -\varepsilon u''(t)+u'(t)+Au(t)+Bu(t)=f(t),\quad 0\leq t \leq T, \] \[ u(0)=u_0,\;u(T)=u_1, \] where \(\varepsilon>0\) is a small parameter. Firstly, results concerned with existence, uniqueness, and regularity of the solutions to both problems are proved. Secondly, the authors obtain the asymptotic expansion for the solution to the regularized problem, which must be corrected by adding a boundary layer function in order to have a good approximation for the solutions to the initial problem.
