Let X be a compact Hausdorff space. A Markov operator on C(X) is a positive linear operator on C(X) such that \(T(1)=1\). The fixed space of an operator T is denoted by F(T). The following theorem is the main result. Theorem 1: Let T be a Markov operator on C(X). Suppose that T' is strongly ergodic, F(T') has a weak order unit and every T-invariant probability measure has a non-meager support. Then T is quasi-compact and hence uniformly ergodic and \(\dim F(T)=\dim F(T')<\infty\). Corollaries of theorem 1 include characterizations of uniform ergodicity of irreducible positive operators of C(X) and of uniform ergodicity of Markov operators on C(X) as well as sufficient conditions for uniform ergodicity of Markov operators on C(X).
