The governing principle of dissipative processes is applied to the study of slow viscous incompressible flows of Newtonian fluids in a circular tube, the viscosity assumed to be a linear function of temperature T. It is found that the variational solution differs from results obtained by Glansdorff's and Prigogine's local potential method. The two solutions become identical in the case of constant viscosity.
