The three-dimensional hypersonic visqous shock layer at a slightly blunted body in the neighbourhood of the stagnation point is discussed, based an a description of the Navier-Stokes equations and the equation of continuity in a curvilinear coordinate system normally attached to the body surface. The effects of viscosity and thermal conductivity are taken care of. The resulting boundary layer equations are solved numerically using an implicit finite-difference scheme with grid-compression near the surface of the body. Special interest is drawn to the influence of the Reynolds number and to the additional physical conditions of injection or suction at the body surface. The solutions obtained are valid for wide ranges of the corresponding parameters. An approximate analytic solution is presented for the flow region at the neighbourhood of the stagnation point and an asymptotic evaluation is given for the limiting case of high Reynolds number. As an example the flow over an elliptic paraboloid is treated. The results i.e. the velocity distribution within the boundary layer which proves to be very thin at high Reynolds numbers and the temperature distribution as well as the friction coefficients for instance, are discussed intensively.
